The owner of XY Magazine and its website filed for bankruptcy earlier this year. XY caters for young gay boys, many of whom may not be out yet and are coming to terms with their sexuality.

When XY’s founding editor, Peter Ian Cummings, filed for bankruptcy in February 2010 he listed his personal assets at $1,500, a net income of zero and one other asset: the “customer list, personal data and editorial and back issues of XY Magazine and XY.com”.

The problem is that the creditors want access to the database of over one million users, a fair proportion of users were from the UK.

I only hope that data protection wins the day and the database is protected.

This Is Oz is about celebrating diversity and challenging homophobia and making Australia a place where everyone belongs.

This Is Oz is an online photo gallery where you can help spread the word about GLBT rights by uploading an image of yourself with your message and encouraging friends and family to do the same.
